About the Online Metronome

Whisser Online Metronome keeps a steady beat for practice, rehearsals and workouts. Set any tempo from 20 to 300 BPM with the dial or tap tempo, choose time signatures such as 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 or 7/8, add subdivisions, and shape the bar by accenting or muting individual beats. Every click is generated and scheduled with Web Audio in your browser for rock-solid timing.

How to use

  1. Drag the dial, use − and +, or tap the Tap button to set the tempo.
  2. Press play or the Space bar to start and stop.
  3. Pick a time signature, subdivision and sound, and adjust the volume.
  4. Click a beat light to cycle between accent, normal and mute.
  5. Turn on the speed trainer to raise the tempo gradually while you practice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use the online metronome?

Set the tempo with the dial, the plus and minus buttons or tap tempo, then press play or the Space bar. Choose a time signature and subdivision in the Rhythm panel.

How does tap tempo work?

Tap the Tap button or press T on your keyboard in time with the music. The metronome averages your last few taps and sets the BPM. Pause for two seconds to start a new count.

How accurate is this metronome?

Clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the Web Audio clock rather than with ordinary JavaScript timers, so the beat stays steady even when the page is busy. The beat lights follow the same clock.

How do 6/8, 7/8 and other eighth-note meters work?

In 6/8, 7/8, 9/8 and 12/8 every eighth note gets a click and the BPM counts those clicks. Group starts are accented, for example beats 1 and 4 in 6/8, and 2+2+3 in 7/8. Click any beat light to change its accent or mute it.

What is the speed trainer?

The speed trainer raises the tempo automatically, for example by 5 BPM every 4 bars, until it reaches your target. It is a simple way to build speed on a difficult passage.

Is the metronome free?

Yes. It is free to use, needs no account, and remembers your settings on this device.
