About the Mic & Webcam Test

Whisser Mic & Webcam Test checks that your microphone and camera work before a call, class, stream or interview. See a live waveform and level meter, record a short clip to hear yourself, and check your camera's picture, resolution and frame rate. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you say or show is uploaded.

How to use

  1. Choose Microphone or Webcam, then tap the start button.
  2. Allow access when your browser asks. If you have several devices, pick one from the list.
  3. Speak and watch the waveform and level meter, or record a 5-second clip and play it back.
  4. For the webcam, check the preview, turn Mirror on or off, and take a snapshot or go fullscreen.
  5. Click Stop when you are done to release the device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my microphone is working?

Click Start, allow microphone access, and speak. If the waveform moves, the level meter rises and the badge changes to We hear you, your microphone works. Record a 5-second clip to hear exactly how you sound.

Why is the browser asking for permission?

Browsers never let a website use your microphone or camera without asking. The permission is only used to show the live test on this page, and you can revoke it at any time from the icon in your address bar.

My microphone or camera is blocked. How do I fix it?

Click the lock or camera icon in the address bar and set the microphone or camera to Allow, then reload. Also close apps such as Zoom, Teams or Discord that may be using the device, and check your system privacy settings.

What does dBFS mean?

dBFS means decibels relative to full scale, the loudest level your device can capture. 0 dBFS is the maximum and may distort. Normal speech usually reads between about -30 and -10 dBFS.

Is my audio or video recorded or uploaded?

No. Everything is processed in your browser. The test clip and snapshots are kept only in this tab until you download them, and nothing is sent to Whisser or anyone else.

Is the mic and webcam test free?

Yes. It is free to use and does not require an account.
