About the Password Generator
Whisser Password Generator creates strong, random passwords and easy-to-type passphrases using your browser's cryptographically secure randomness. A live meter shows the entropy, a strength rating and an estimated crack time, and a separate checker rates any password you type. Everything happens on your device, so no password is ever sent or stored on a server.
How to use
- Choose Password for a random string, or Passphrase for a set of random words.
- Set the length or number of words, and pick the character types or separator you need.
- Tap the refresh button to generate a new one, then tap Copy.
- Paste it into your password manager or the sign-up form. Use Check a password to test an existing password privately.
Frequently asked questions
Are the generated passwords secure?
Yes. Passwords are created with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, and each character or word is picked without bias. Nothing is generated or stored on a server.
Are my passwords saved or sent anywhere?
No. Generated passwords exist only on this page. The Recent list is kept in memory and disappears when you close or reload the tab. Only your generator settings, such as length, are remembered in this browser.
Password or passphrase: which should I use?
Use a random password for accounts saved in a password manager. Use a passphrase of six or more random words for anything you must type or remember, such as a computer login or the master password of your password manager.
How long should a password be?
Aim for at least 16 random characters, or at least 6 random words for a passphrase. Both give more than 60 bits of entropy, which is rated Strong.
How is the crack time estimated?
It assumes an offline attacker making 10 billion guesses per second and shows the average time to find the password. Real attacks may be slower or faster depending on how the website stores passwords.
Is the password checker safe to use?
The checker runs entirely in your browser and never sends what you type. It looks for length, character variety, common passwords, dictionary words, sequences, keyboard patterns, repeats and years.
